Kanal 24 is a longstanding news channel that has been delivering broadcasts from past to present. Categorized among news networks, it has established itself as a prominent television channel, particularly in earlier years. However, following political developments, the channel underwent significant changes—including shifts in ownership and content direction.

Today, news channels focus on regional coverage if they cater to a specific city or national and global news if they operate on a broader scale. The scope and presentation of these reports vary depending on the channel’s editorial stance. Despite these differences, their core purpose remains the same: to inform viewers, who tune in to stay updated.

When Was Kanal 24 Founded?

Kanal 24 has a history dating back many years. The news channel was officially launched on January 24, 2007, initially under the Star Media Group (Turkey) However, after being transferred to the  Savings Deposit Insurance Fund of Turkey the channel experienced further developments. Not only did its ownership change, but its broadcasting approach also evolved over time.

Originally a dedicated news network, 24 TV primarily delivers news coverage throughout the day. It operated continuously from 2007 until its transfer to TMSF. Later that same year, the channel was reopened to viewers following an auction. Since then, it has continued broadcasting, providing audiences with relevant news content.

Who Owns Kanal 24?

At its inception, the channel was founded by the Star Media Group, then associated with Cem Uzan. However, due to political and legal disputes, Star Media Group and its affiliated media assets were seized by TMSF. The same year, an auction was held to determine the new owner.

Ali Özmen Safa, a businessman of Cypriot origin, acquired Kanal 24. Initially the sole owner, he later announced a partnership with Alaaddin Kaya and his son, Cüneyt Kaya. The Kaya family held a 60% stake, while Safa retained 40%.

Shortly afterward, the channel was sold to Ethem Sancak, former owner of Es Media. However, Sancak’s ownership was brief. In 2009, he transferred half of his shares to Fettah Tamince, owner of Rixos Hotels, becoming a co-owner. Eventually, Es Media and its media holdings were sold to Hasan Yeşildağ.
